The Church of The Covenant has a unique and storied history. We are the culmination of two entirely different churches. In the fall of 1970, a letter was received by St. Paul's Lutheran Church from First Presbyterian Church in Grafton to determine interest in discussing common problems, the future, and the possibility of a joint ministry. Both congregations had declined in membership and needed to think creatively. A joint committee agreed upon a fifteen-week trial period of shared worship services (alternating worship between the two church buildings). A questionnaire and vote was put before both congregations and the people overwhelmingly elected to join their congregations.
Our joint ministry began in 1972 and proudly continues to this day. While this shared ministry has not always been the easiest, as the combined Lutheran and Presbyterian congregation remains extremely unique, we thank God for His guidance and celebrate our common ministry and love for mission and Jesus. We feel our Lord's prayer in John 17:21 that all Christians "be one" is above any differences we may hold. Today it does not matter if you are Lutheran or Presbyterian or any other stripe. If you're a Christian, you belong!
